This workshop is a continuation of the programme started last year in calypso music. It is open to residents of all ages and abilities who are interested in learning about the art form. No experience required.

The main elements of the training programme are composing, vocal training, performance techniques and presentation styles.

New participants will be introduced to calypso music while those from last year's programme will focus on changes to the art form and the fusion of different music genres with calypso. These include indie, reggae, soul and rap music with calypso. Special emphasis will be placed on soca music, a commercialised form of calypso with a more upbeat tempo.

This programme is scheduled for Saturdays only at the African Caribbean Centre from 10am - 5:00pm and will be conducted by Tutors from the Association of British Calypsonians in London.

It is expected that at the end of the workshop that the participants will showcase their work both in Leicester and London.
