Carnival Day will be celebrated at Victoria Park, Leicester on August 1st this year. It coincides with the anniversary of the Emancipation from Slavery recognised in the Caribbean and other parts of the World as Emancipation Day.
The highlight of Carnival Day is the Street Carnival of troupes, floats and individuals through the streets of Leicester. The Street Carnival begins at Victoria Park at 1:00pm following the official opening ceremony and makes its way to the City Centre before returning to Victoria Park via London Road.
Thousands of people line the streets to see the colourful costumes and floats and then follow the Street Carnival back to Victoria Park, which is transformed into a Carnival Village.

At Victoria Park the area is divided into zones. These include a Children's Village, Youth Village, Main Arena, a large Fun Fair and the Reggae Zone, which features the ever-popular Abashanti.
Those visiting the Leicester Caribbean Carnival Village can be guaranteed that there will be lots to see and do. There is the chance to sample food from the Caribbean and other parts of the World; activities geared specifically at children in the activity tents and the mini funfair in the Children's Village. There's also an area for youths to display their talent and let others see some of the work they are doing in the community.
A tour of Carnival Village is not complete without visiting the Main stage, which provide non-stop quality entertainment from 2:00 to 8:00pm. Take the opportunity to visit the promotional units, as well as those selling art and craft. There's so much to see and do so reserve August 1st 2009 for Carnival Day in Leicester.
