Costume Workshops

The costume workshops are open to residents of Leicester and Leicestershire and in particular groups and individuals wishing to learn the art of producing costumes for the annual Caribbean Carnival.

The aims of the workshops are to:
  • Develop a cadre of skilled costume designers and builders in Leicester and Leicestershire.
  • Improve the quality of costumes presented at Carnival Day showcases including the street carnival.
  • Train participants with the appropriate skills to gain employment or set up their own business in the creative arts sector.
The training programme will cover the following:
  • Developing ideas and designs for costumes
  • Realising designs on a limited budget
  • Sourcing materials
  • Pattern Making
  • Construction
  • Decorating
  • Presentation Techniques
Workshops will run over a set period with full training sessions divided into segments. We will require participants to work on a project either as part of a group or as an individual.

Sessions will be timetabled and it is important that participants show up for their sessions as booked. This will allow us to accommodate more participants in the programme and to meet deadlines.

Open house sessions will be timetabled so that participants can continue to work on their projects outside of the workshop.
